I began painting during the Op Art movement, of the 1960s, facinated by the relationship between line and colour developing a perceptual abstract approach. Continuing to experiment with shape, balance and relationship of line and colour tone it became clear to me that each work has its own unique set of design principles. My investigation lead to a geometric abstract paintings characterised by boldness and minimalist simplicity.

My recent work investigates the relationship between line and space in the city. How shape and line in buildings interact, old and new structures sit together, with spaces of sky, how light reflects and interacts with the viewer’s perspective and position to capture tonal changes. A vibrant urban landscape full of energy and mood. Paintings combine hard-edge abstraction stripping non essential detail with contextual figurative representation.  Visual art, architecture and relationship of line fused in a single form.

In 2016 I was commissioned by the band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark to produce artwork for the cover of their thirteenth Studio Album ‘The Punishment of Luxury’ with further covers and related work. In 2018/9 completing a design for the windows of the phone box, in Meols, made famous through OMD’s second single release ‘Red Frame White Light’.
